Landfall Variability

Weather & Climate…
Reconstructing the Past,
Anticipating the Future

Hurricane landfall risk varies along the coast in a systematic way. What factors are responsible for the coastal variation? Will the risk to certain coastal zones change with the climate change? Our research suggests that the spatial variability of landfall risk depends on the joint frequency of onshore flow and low vertical wind shear along the coast.
